Our Story

Our Story

Founded in 1955, Pioneer Pacific Camp has been operating ever since as a life-changing summer camp for children and youth. It is part of a network of nine InterVarsity Camps across Canada.

In 1954 a group of leaders from InterVarsity were given the task of finding a location for a West Coast Pioneer Camp. Percy Wills of the Shanty Mission heard of the search and knew of a man on Thetis Island who was interested in giving some of his property for a Christian camp. In 1955, Christian college students volunteered their time to cut trees, clear land and built the first structures at Pioneer Pacific. The first teen camp started in the summer of 1955. It lasted 12 days and was attended by 80 teenagers. They slept and dined in tents. Since that time thousands of young people have attended camps here where they have heard about God’s love and experienced the beauty of his creation.

Over the past 60+ years, we have welcomed thousands of campers to our 76-acre property along three beautiful ocean bays on Thetis Island in the southern Gulf. We offer many activities, including tubing, water-skiing, wake-boarding, sailing, snorkeling, archery, mountain biking, and wall climbing.

Over 60 Years of Camping!

During the summer months, we run overnight camps for youth between the ages of 7 and 17, providing a transformative experience for campers in a fun and caring environment. In this camp community, where leadership and faith development is encouraged, children and youth freely ask tough questions about life and faith. We believe that faith in Jesus Christ and an understanding of God’s love lead to a life full of purpose and meaning. Campers find answers and direction for life here. For 57 years, we have been helping children and youth develop into mature Christian leaders.
